Things to do in Engelberg and Mount Titlis
Engelberg sits about 45 minutes from Lucerne by direct train, and it's the base for Mount Titlis at 3,238 metres. The Rotair, the world's first rotating cable car, spins a full 360 degrees on the final stretch up from Trübsee, and a round trip from Engelberg costs around CHF 96 (less with a Swiss Travel Pass discount).
At the top, the glacier cave is a genuinely cold, narrow tunnel cut into the ice, not a polished attraction, and the Cliff Walk suspension bridge crosses a drop of roughly 500 metres over rock rather than glacier. Snow is present year-round at the summit even when Engelberg itself is green, though cloud cover regularly hides the view.
Trübsee, the halfway lake, is worth the stop for its own sake, and the 12th-century Benedictine abbey in the village adds a half-day option that costs nothing beyond the walk in.
