Things to do in Mürren and on the Schilthorn
Mürren sits car-free on a cliff shelf at 1,650 m, reached only by cable car from Stechelberg or Lauterbrunnen, then the connecting line via Grütschalp. The village itself is a 15-minute walk end to end.
Above it, the Schilthorn cable car climbs in stages to 2,970 m, ending at Piz Gloria, the revolving restaurant used in the 1969 Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service; a return ticket from Mürren costs around CHF 110. The panorama takes in the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau across the valley.
Midway up, the Birg station (2,677 m) has the Thrill Walk, a metal-grate and glass gangway bolted to the rock face, included in the same ascent. Allow a full day from Lucerne: journey time each way is roughly 2 hours 15 minutes via Interlaken.
