Things to do in Grindelwald and the Jungfraujoch
Grindelwald sits below the Eiger's north face, roughly 45 minutes from Lucerne via the Brunig line, though the Jungfraujoch itself is closer to 2 hours 30 with the connection through Interlaken.
The Eiger Express gondola cuts the old rack-railway approach to about 15 minutes up to Eigergletscher, but a return ticket to the Top of Europe still runs upwards of CHF 220 in summer, less with a Swiss Travel Pass discount or an early-morning fare.
First is the cheaper outing: the cable car from Grindelwald costs around CHF 76 return and opens onto the Cliff Walk, a steel platform bolted to the rock face, and the 2-hour loop to Bachalpsee, a glacial lake that mirrors the Wetterhorn on a still day but freezes over well into June. Weather rules everything here - check the webcams before paying for altitude.
